Chalet Hinkelstein - Beatenberg, Switzerland
Our Chalet Hinkelstein is in a peaceful location in Beatenberg in the Bernese Oberland, high above Interlaken, with stunning views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. It’s also perfectly located for hikes and excursions throughout the Jungfrau Region, to Lake Thun and Interlaken, and to famous destinations such as Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn.

It comfortably accommodates up to 4 guests and is especially suitable for couples, two couples travelling together, or families with older children.

The holiday apartment is on the upper floor of our chalet and has its own entrance. With around 63 m² of space, it offers guests two bedrooms, a cosy living area with a fireplace, a kitchen and a bathroom.
The balcony is especially lovely, with open views of the mountains around Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – a panorama that’s impressive in every season.
We use the lower floor of the house exclusively ourselves. It is not rented to other holiday guests and has a separate entrance. This means you can enjoy a peaceful stay and have your own private space.
There is a parking space right by the garages at the house. From there, an outdoor staircase with a handrail leads up to the holiday apartment.
The region is easily explored even without a car. Bus connections from Beatenberg are good, and the guest card allows free use of many public transport options in the region. This makes Interlaken and other starting points for excursions easily accessible.
The chalet is a lovely base for a holiday in the Bernese Oberland at any time of year. In summer, hiking and the many day trips are the main attractions; in winter, snow-covered mountains and winter sports beckon.
We find the autumn days especially impressive, when Interlaken and Lake Thun are blanketed in thick fog while Beatenberg is often basking in sunshine above it.
After a day out or a hike, you can unwind on the balcony or by the fireplace.
It is this very combination of peace and quiet, mountain views and the many things to do in the Jungfrau Region that makes Chalet Hinkelstein so special to us.

Beatenberg – the sunny terrace of the Bernese Oberland
Beatenberg is perched high above Lake Thun and Interlaken, living up to its name as the “sunny terrace of the Bernese Oberland.” The unobstructed views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are especially impressive—a panorama that never fails to delight us, even after many years.
Beatenberg is also an ideal base for hikes and trips throughout the region. Interlaken, Lake Thun, the Niederhorn and many of the Jungfrau Region’s best-known attractions are all close by.

Beatenberg TourismWhat we love about Beatenberg is that it’s peaceful and a little above the tourist bustle, yet right in the heart of one of Switzerland’s most beautiful holiday regions.
The mountains begin right outside the door, while Interlaken and Lake Thun are just a short journey away.
The Niederhorn, right above Beatenberg, is especially beautiful. It’s also the starting point for numerous hikes and offers magnificent views over Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps.
Many of the region’s best-known attractions are also easy to reach from Beatenberg, including the Jungfraujoch, the Schilthorn with Piz Gloria, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and day trips to Lake Thun or Lake Brienz.
If you enjoy hiking, you can head out on a different route every day, from easy walks to longer mountain hikes.
And there’s plenty to do without a car, too: bus services to Interlaken are good, and the guest card includes some public transport in the region.
Autumn often brings a truly special atmosphere. While Interlaken lies under a blanket of fog, the sun is often shining up in Beatenberg. From here, you can look out over a sea of fog towards the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau—a view we think is one of the most beautiful of all.
Beatenberg has its own special charm in winter, too. Snow-covered mountains, winter hiking trails and winter sports make the area a year-round destination. After a day outdoors, it’s especially cosy to return to the chalet and unwind by the fireplace.
For us, this very mix is what makes Beatenberg so special: peace and quiet, magnificent views, and at the same time countless opportunities for hikes and excursions in the Bernese Oberland.

Good to know! (FAQ)
How many people can the holiday home accommodate?
We rent the house to a maximum of 4 guests. With around 65 m² of living space, 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and an additional toilet, it offers plenty of room, peace and privacy—ideal for two adults, two couples or a family with older children.
What is the minimum stay?
Minimum stay: 7 nights
What time are check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 3:00 pm and check-out is by 10:00 am. Other times may be possible by arrangement.
Will I need a car during my stay?
Not necessarily. The bus service from Beatenberg to Interlaken is good. In Interlaken, you can connect to the trains and reach many destinations in the Jungfrau region easily by public transport.
Even so, we wouldn’t want to be without a car. It offers much more flexibility for trips outside the immediate area, spontaneous outings and destinations that are less convenient to reach by bus and train. Train and mountain railway fares in Switzerland can also add up quickly.
If you’re mainly planning to hike, visit Interlaken and explore the Jungfrau region, you can get by without a car. If you want more independence and plan to take trips further afield, you’re better off with your own car or a rental.
Is there a local contact available?
Yes. I’m personally available throughout your stay – WhatsApp is the easiest way to reach me, but you’re also welcome to call.
Arriving is easy: the key is in a key safe right at the house, so you can arrive whenever suits you on arrival day, without having to arrange a set handover time.
Ruth takes care of the chalet’s final cleaning on site. I’m your first point of contact for any questions about your stay.
Elke Stamm
Are pets allowed?
No, pets are not allowed. Unfortunately, we’ve had many bad experiences in the past, so we decided not to allow them.
Is smoking allowed in the house?
No. Smoking is not permitted in the house.
Smoking is permitted outside the house. It goes without saying that we ask you not to leave cigarette butts in the garden.
How do I pay when booking directly?
A 25% deposit of the rental price is due when you book. The balance is payable 14 days before arrival. By prior arrangement, you can also pay in cash at the property.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can cancel free of charge up to 30 days before arrival. For cancellations made 29 to 14 days before arrival, we charge 50% of the rental price; for cancellations made 13 days or less before arrival, we charge 90%. The final cleaning fee is not charged if you cancel.
If the cancelled dates can be fully re-let, the cancellation fee will be waived. If they are re-let for only part of the time, the fee will be reduced accordingly.
If something exceptional means your trip can’t go ahead as planned, please get in touch. If availability allows, we’ll do our best to find a solution that works for you—for example, by moving your stay to another date.
Is it cheaper to book directly than through a booking site?
When you book directly, you won’t pay any additional booking platform commissions or service fees. You book directly with us, the owners, and enjoy personal contact from your first enquiry right through to your stay.
Can I book through a booking platform?
to FeWoDirekt...Yes. You’re also welcome to book through a booking platform if you prefer. We also list the house directly on Booking.com. Please note that the platform’s fees may apply in addition.
Where can I find restaurants and shopping facilities?
Beatenberg offers restaurants and shops for daily needs. Interlaken, with its significantly wider selection of shops, restaurants, and cafes, is easily accessible.
We’ve also put together our personal recommendations for restaurants, shopping and day trips in our Google Maps lists, which we update regularly.
Is the house also suitable for a winter holiday?
Yes, Chalet Hinkelstein is available to rent all year round, and every season has its own special appeal.
In winter, there’s a small ski area right in Beatenberg. The larger ski resorts in the Jungfrau Region are also within easy reach, making the chalet ideal for a winter holiday.
Beatenberg is especially beautiful for walks and excursions in spring and autumn. At these times of year, the distant views are often exceptionally clear, and the views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are particularly impressive.
For us, Beatenberg is therefore not just a summer destination, but worth a visit at any time of year.
What is the access road to the chalet like?
The road from Interlaken climbs around 600 metres over approximately 10 kilometres to Beatenberg. It is two lanes throughout and typical of mountain roads in the Bernese Oberland. In a few places, when faced with oncoming traffic—such as a bus—you may need to pull over briefly.
The access road to our chalet is suitable for vehicles up to 16 tonnes. Our house is the last one on a cul-de-sac, where the road ends. There’s plenty of room to turn around, and the parking area is right by our garages.
In winter, the roads are cleared regularly, but they are not always treated all the way down to bare asphalt. Winter tyres are therefore essential. You should also keep snow chains in the car, as they may be needed in winter driving conditions.
Is the holiday apartment wheelchair accessible?
No. The holiday apartment is not wheelchair accessible. From the parking area by the garages, an outdoor staircase with a handrail leads across the terrace up to the apartment entrance on the upper floor.
The chalet may therefore not be fully suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Will anyone else be staying at the chalet during our stay?
The chalet consists of two completely separate apartments, each with its own entrance. There is no shared staircase or connection between the two apartments.
The upper apartment is exclusively for your use during your stay. We use the lower apartment ourselves, or our children do, so it may also be occupied from time to time. However, it is not rented out to other holidaymakers.
